SUPPORTING A FIRST RESPONDER GROUP

SPREAD THE WORD

Most people know about Special Constables and Reserve Firemen but few are aware of the volunteers who support the Ambulance Service. This web site provides information about First Responders. Encourage others to visit the site and find out what we do. Only by making a wider section of the community aware of our existence can we attract the number of volunteers we need, both as active members and as supporters. It also helps if people understand who we are when we turn up in response to an emergency call.

Tell your friends and relatives what you know about Community First Responders and encourage them to visit this web site.

Many thanks to Mundon Womens Institute and Maldon Triathlon Club for their recent generous donations.

PRACTICAL SUPPORT

Not everyone feels able to attend emergency calls but they may be able to help in other ways. You may wish to help with the organisation of social activities, such as Quiz Nights, or public events, such as our participation in The Maldon Carnival. Just turning up at events ensures their success. You might like to offer administrative support from time to time, helping with leaflet drops, for instance. Perhaps you are one of those valuable people who has the ideas and personality to spearhead fund raising. We would be glad to hear from you if you would like to help in any way.

THE 200 CLUB

It is with regret that a decision has been made to close the 200Club at the end of September 2011. The Club Administrator will be contacting all members about this.

The Club was originally established by residents of Heybridge Basin to provide funds for Basin Heartwatch. Since then, membership has spread and both heybridge and Maldon First Responders have benefitted from funds raised by the Club. We thank all of those who have subscribed to the 200 Club over the years.

HELP US FIND YOU

Our members report that one of the greatest difficulties they face is finding the address to which they have been sent, especially at night. Vital minutes lost searching could make the difference between life and death.

There are ways that you can help once the 999 call has been made but it is also worth planning in advance to ensure that First Responders and Paramedics can find you quickly and gain access to the patient.

Ensure that you have a large, clear house number that is visible from the road by day and night.

Give your address clearly to Ambulance Control. If you live in Heybridge, say so, rather than Maldon. If you are difficult to find or there are access problems, then inform Ambulance Control.

Put lights on at night. If possible, get a family member to meet and direct the emergency services.

DONATIONS

First Responders receive no payment for their work nor are they paid expenses. Resources that are used with patients, such as oxygen, are supplied by the Ambulance Service, but much of our equipment was bought by the Group.

Our only income is from fund raising and donations from individuals and other groups. We would welcome your help to provide the funds we need to continue our work.
